the United Arab Emirates are motor vehicle crashes, drowning, burns
and falls.

1995, 301 children died from injuries, and 17,500 children sought
emergency room consultation for traumatic injury.
Since its inception in 1999, Safe Kids Middle East/United Arab Emirates has made significant accomplishments in improving child safety.The campaign passed a law that requires children under the age of 10 to ride in the back seats of motor vehicles. The law went into effect in January 2001 and was the first to address passenger safety in the UAE.

Safe Kids materials are being distributed via Johnson’s Baby New Mother Sampling program. The program reaches 50,000 new mothers per month in hospitals across the Middle East. Johnson & Johnson representative demonstrate Safe Kids programs directly to mothers and distributed Johnson Baby products.
Safe Kids ME/UAE organized a 3-day Safe Kids Workshop that began on May 10, 2005. Over 200 women attended each day. Safe Kids materials were distributed to all attendees. In another successful collaboration with the Dubai Women’s Association, Safe Kids organized a charitable party or Thalassmic patients at the Al Wasl Hospital in Dubai. Safe Kids materials and gifts were distributed to children and their parents at the event.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Safe Kids ME/UAE visited two primary schools in March 2005 to educate school children on safety tips at home, at school and on the road. Safe Kids ME/UAE plans to reach more schools beginning in September.
Safe Kids was represented at the Johnson & Johnson baby booth at the Mother, Baby & Child Show from December 9-11, 2004. Over 20,000 Safe Kids leaflets and Frisbees were distributed. As part of the event, Ch 4fm offered 9 Safe Kids car seats as prizes in a contest at their three radio stations, staring December 9.
Johnson & Johnson representatives distributed Safe Kids materials along with Johnson baby products to over 300 pharmacists at the Pharmacists’ Workshop in Oman on Nov. 24, 2004. The goal of the program was to promote the importance of keeping medicines of a child’s reach. Safe Kids ME/UAE also distributed leaflets to 1,000 nurses at the Nursing Gulf Countries Conference in Qatar on Dec. 14, 2004.
Safe Kids materials were distributed to 400 pediatricians at the 10 th Conference of the Jordan Pediatric Society from October 6-8, 2004. The Minister of Health visited the Johnson & Johnson’s booth and promised to support Safe Kids ME/UAE in spreading the Safe Kids message to health authorities across Jordan.
Johnson & Johnson Middle East introduced a unique Safe Kids program to midwives on the International Day of the Midwife in May 2004. The program focused on how to prevent accidents involving newborn children. |
