Safe Kids Brazil , known as Criança Segura, officially launched its campaign in June 2001. Headquartered in Sao Paulo, the program has coalitions in Sao Paulo, Curitiba, Londrina and Recife.

Safe Kids Brazil/Criança Segura has joined government efforts to address burn prevention nationwide. In June 2005, thousands of Safe Kids Brazil/Criança Segura educational materials were distributed to major hospitals, childcare centers, schools and public transportation.
Safe Kids Brazil/Criança Segura launched their Band-Aid-sponsored Criança Segura at School Program in March with the support of government organizations, educational authorities and other partners. The program is held in São Paulo, São Jose dos Campos, Recife and Curitiba to educate parents, teachers and students (from 4 to 10 years old) a about injury prevention. In 2005, 230 schools, 9,500 teachers and 58,000 students will participate, receiving books about injury prevention. Partnerships with school secretaries are also being developed.
During December, January and February 2005, Safe Kids Brazil/Criança Segura distributed educational materials about injury prevention, focused on major accidental injuries that occur during summer. Safe Kids Brazil/Criança Segura had the support of police and fire department workers.
On November 20, 2004, Safe Kids Brazil/Criança Segura celebrated the achievements of Safe Kids Walk This Way in São Paulo , with sponsors FedEx and Perkons. More than 10,000 people, eight schools and two nongovernmental organizations participated in the program in 2004. The celebration took place at a public school in a neighborhood with a high number of pedestrian injuries. During the celebration, students, educators and parents participated in traffic safety education.
From October 21 to October 31, 2004, Safe Kids Brazil/Criança Segura participated in the Auto Show in São Paulo , along with partner Chevrolet. Safe Kids distributed more than 5,000 leaflets about Safe Kids Buckle Up, displayed different safety seat models and demonstrated correct installation. Many families, health professionals and educators visiting from other regions in Brazil took brochures to give out in their communities. Safe Kids Brazil/Criança Segura also introduced a new "wrap" design for their mobile car seat checkup wagons.
From September 18 to September 25, 2004, Safe Kids Brazil/Criança Segura celebrated Traffic Week with activities for adults and children in São Paulo , Recife , Curitiba and Londrina . Educational Activities where held in parks, schools and malls, as well as on the streets. The main objectives were:
- Raising awareness about the importance of transporting children correctly in order to prevent accidents.
- Increasing the number of children transported correctly in car seats.
- Educating adults and children about pedestrian and bicycle safety.
In partnership with Fisher Price - Mattel, Safe Kids Brazil/Criança Segura developed the Criança Segura at Play campaign in August 2004 to teach parents and educators about toy and game safety. A workshop discussed the importance of playing to children's development and the most important precautions for safe play. The president of the Brazilian Association of Toy Stations also participated. Educational materials and puzzles were distributed at major toy stores in January 2005.
The first National Safe Kids Week in Brazil took place July 3-11 2004, with support from Johnson & Johnson. A kickoff concert at São Paulo 's most popular park, Parque do Ibirapuera, led into a week of educational activities at 355 supermarkets and drugstores around the city. In addition, 7,000 teddy bears were displayed at the Government Palace in São Paulo to represent the children whose lives can be saved annually through effective injury prevention. This image was followed by a televised message of support from celebrities. |
